How do I allow files to open on my Mac?

Manage access to files and folders on the Mac

  • On your Mac, choose Apple menu> System Preferences, click Security & Privacy, and then click Privacy. Open the seal for me.
  • Select files and folders.
  • Select the check box under an app that allows files and folders to be found in that location.

Why doesn’t my Mac allow me to open a file? If you can’t use a document, file, or app you need, you may need to change the permission for that. If you share your Mac with other users, contact your Mac’s administrator or network. An administrator can manage permissions for individual users on a single Mac.

Why is my computer saying I dont have permission?

Go to the Security tab and find the name of the user or category. If you do not have access to that file, click the Advanced button. Once you are in the Advanced Security Settings window, go to the Owner section at the top, and then click the Change link. Doing so should display the User or Group window.
